    FAQs

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all! In fact, it’s my belief that it takes strength to not only recognize a need for help, but then to reach out and schedule an appointment. You are stronger than you think!

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals. Medication, which may be helpful in symptom reduction, cannot solve all problems.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

EMDR is an established type of therapy which targets traumatic events that continue to impact your life. EMDR clears the emotional charge associated with these events. The events can be truly traumatic in nature or any distressing event which continues to linger and can’t be shaken off with mind over matter.  All you have to do is to come with an open mind and readiness to do this life changing work.

    How long will it take?

Generally speaking the healing power of EMDR takes less time than traditional talk therapy, which can last for years.  However, everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the pace of the EMDR process will vary from individual to individual. This will be determined after the first meeting together.

Your commitment to do the work is essential.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

You’ve already started that process by investing your time in searching for the right therapist. It’s important that you trust and feel comfortable with the therapist you select. Once an appointment is scheduled, bring a mind set for change and willingness to do the work. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
